PROJECT
Spiber inc. Thailand 1st Plant Project
This project involved the construction of a plant in Thailand by Spiber Corporation to mass produce the world's first artificially synthesized structural protein material. As the project manager, Index Consulting provided management and client support throughout the entire project flow, from the basic design stage through the selection of the EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contractor to the completion of the plant.

Client's requirements.
In Thailand, where business customs differ from those in Japan, we were required to realize the construction of an overseas mass production plant within the target budget and schedule.
Index Consulting Solution
In the basic planning phase, we provided advice and supported the necessary operations for the client's first overseas factory construction. Specifically, based on the client's facility requirements, we advised on the "appropriate construction period," "estimated construction costs," and "experienced EPC providers" for the local area, and supported the "preparation of a master schedule," "setting of a target budget," and "identification of candidate EPC providers.
In the phase of selecting the EPC contractor, we adopted a proposal-based bidding method after preparing a quotation outline and requirement specifications. The results of the bidding were discussed with the bidders, and the company that was judged to have the most promising cost competitiveness and project promotion capabilities was selected as the recommended contractor.
Because the contract format for overseas plant construction work differs from that for domestic work, we carefully examined the terms and conditions of the contract and revised any clauses that were disadvantageous to the client, leading to a fair contract conclusion.
In addition, various design changes occurred during the design and construction phase, but by conducting cost assessments of these change estimates, we were able to avoid large increases and optimize overall project costs, resulting in construction that was generally within the target budget.
In addition, this project was affected by the new Corona due to the pandemic, including the declaration of a force majeure by the EPC operator due to the interruption of production of machinery in a third country. However, we were able to minimize the impact of this by communicating closely with the local EPC operator via web conference.
