16th October is "World Food Day", established by the United Nations as a day to consider global food issues, and October becomes "World Food Day" month.
Index Group will hold its second food drive during the month of "World Food Day" as a measure against food loss that everyone can easily undertake.
The estimated food loss in Japan in fiscal 2020 is 5.22 million tons. This amounts to approximately 41 kg per person, or about 113 g per day, implying that each person in Japan throws away one rice bowl of food daily.
To reduce food waste, Index Group will collect the following target food at our headquarters from 13th October (Thursday) to 7th November (Monday).
Target foods: Rice, dried noodles and other staple foods, canned foods (meat, fish, vegetables), instant foods, retort-pouch foods, seasonings, sweets, and soft drinks.
Excluded foods: Opened package food, food with damaged or soiled packaging, food whose packaging and contents are different (except for rice), food with no indication of expiration date or ingredients (except for sugar and salt), food with less than one month until expiration date, alcoholic beverages (liquor), pharmaceuticals Alcoholic beverages (alcoholic beverages), medicines, health foods (supplements, etc.), water, fresh foods, bottled foods, and pet foods.

Index Group members will package and deliver the donated food to Second Harvest Japan on 8th November (Tuesday).
