In the international competition "New Karakoram City Plan" held by the Mongolian government, a team represented by Index Strategy Inc. won third place out of 428 teams from all over the world. The top 5 teams, including our group, will move on to the next step in realizing their proposals.

Airi Ikedo, a Director of Index Strategy, served as a project manager for the project and teamed up with Kengo Kuma & Associates which was led by a world-renowned architect, Mr. Kengo Kuma, HSS Engineering in Malaysia and Masu Planning in Denmark to form a multinational team of experts.  The members of Index, Inc. and Social System Design, Inc. from our group also participated as urban planning experts.

The proposal was compiled and submitted in the middle of last month, and Uemura group representative and Ikedo project manager attended the judging committee held in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, and made a presentation together with Mr. Kengo Kuma and his staff Mr. Calvache. As a result, the team placed third out of 428 teams from 54 countries. The proposals of the top five teams, including state-owned enterprises of China and Indonesia, will be further refined and detailed plans for implementation will be drawn up.

New Kharakhorum is planned to be located about 350km west of the capital, Ulaanbaatar, adjacent to the Olkhon Valley. It will take over the functions of the capital, which is now overcrowded, and will form a smart city suitable for the 21st century where people and nature coexist, disseminating cutting-edge industry and culture from Mongolia's new central city. Nearby Karakorum is the first capital of the Mongol Empire with an ancient history.

Index Group will focus on new urban planning in Mongolia, mainly through Index Strategy, and contribute to projects that aim to assure mutual and social benefit in the international community through project management in construction and infrastructure PPPs.
