CEO MESSAGE

Social System Design, Inc. started out small and has expanded in order to provide services that integrate mathematics, IT, consultation, and management.
In 2000, the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo established the Department of Systems Innovation, and our CEO, Miyata, played a central role in its establishment. Miyata named this innovative department since he was convinced that the 21st century would be ”the age of systems.”
Although over 50 years have passed since mankind reached the moon, modern system technology has not advanced enough. In other words, systems technology has degenerated. This is probably because the talent has moved on to other fields.
The last quarter of the 20th century was the era of semiconductors, but now we must create a new era more suitable for the 21st century.
Ships and nuclear power plants can be considered systems, but now we must create systems that connect nature and humans better. One of the most important things is developing and diffusing energy systems that incorporate renewable energy generation and rechargeable batteries.
On the other hand, we believe that a great evolution is required in companies' management methods. Oftentimes, IT is fully utilized in design and production but not in the post-processes, resulting in many miss-products and waste, for example. A great management system is also a social system.
The design of social systems in the 21st century will be completely different from what it was 50 years ago.
Shortly before his death, Drucker said that IT is at the kindergarten level and that we will make great progress in the future. IT will make a great contribution to the creation of social systems. Our goal is to connect advanced IT to social systems, and advance artistic management.
We are also involved in the reconstruction of Tohoku through the East Japan Future City Research Association.
As a think tank, we will continue our business off of the three pillars of energy social system design, PPP/PFI consulting services, and secretariat management for general incorporated associations. We would love to continue to collaborate with various companies and people.

PHILOSOPHY

  • Always with the SHIKKAI spirit,
    making SHIKKAI effort

In the Edo era, SHIKKAI-YA was a project manager who organized various craftsmen to deliver kimonos in response to the clients' requests. We serve our clients with the spirit of a SHIKKAI-YA who responds to all requests in every way.

  • Assuring mutual and
    social benefit

In Japan, there is a belief that good business should contribute to the three sides: the seller, the buyer, and society. We aim to create a society where all parties involved, including the client, the recipient, local residents, and users, share the benefits and risks.

  • Making the future bright
    for the next generation

Looking back on human history, we have all made efforts to leave a better society for ourselves and the following generations. Through construction and social infrastructure, we, too, will leave behind a society in which the next generation can thrive.

Shikkai is a term originating from the traditional Japanese kimono-making process. In the 40 steps of the kimono-making process, from the untouched fabric to the finished product, the Shikkai-ya, who coordinated the various craftsmen and their skills in thread-making, weaving, dyeing, etc. to create a single piece of clothing, had the roles of a programmer, producer, creative director, sales, and production manager.
The Japanese culture has nurtured a spirit of harmony and respect for coexistence with nature and society. As a modern Shikkai-ya (Japanese-style project manager), Index Group respects the differences in gender, age, race, culture, occupation, and position of the various stakeholders, which is a key concept in our corporate culture.

Shikkai [noun]
Synonyms: Japanese-style project management.
Refers to optimal resource allocation and management, and total coordination with thoughtfulness, care, and integrity.
